Gifts Freely Bestowed
When one we love is suffering
And in their eyes we see
An ocean of pain,
A mountain of hurt
And myriad miseries,
When their heart is torn
And the mangled threads
Of nature’s covering bares
A soul bereft of common joys
Bowed beneath their cares.
There swells a tide of recompense
From other weathered hearts
Who’ve borne the tempest of the past
That sets the soul apart.
Compassion’s treasures, freely shared
by those who’ve trembling come
To spread an banquet by the Spring
Where living waters run.
With hands extended, full of grace
Survivors of the fall, reach out to give
as they’ve received, in answer to the call.
The Giver of their benefits, the Shepherd
Of their soul, the Master of the Universe
Who bid them, “Rise, and go!”
Has given wings to hearts of stone
And strength to feet of clay
Has filled their life with gifts of love
His gifts to give away.
