She knows, she sees but disagrees
with what her senses tell. It cannot be!
Can not... Oh, well...
The years wing by and childhood screams
Against injustice, silently.
Oh, treasure ruined, oh awful cost!
The day is done. The child is lost
Amidst the rubble of the years
A broken doll bereft of tears
Cheated, battered, ruined and bested
Innocence, alas! Invested
In the fog of love and loss
Of hate and need and counting costs
On stubby fingers--two, four, three
A-b-c-d-f- e- g
Ignored she grows and some will say
“You know, she could have walked away...”
She knows, she sees
But disagrees with what her senses tell.
